New in 2022: The No Surprises Act

As of January 1, 2022, you now have new billing protections when you receive emergency or non-emergency medical care from an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility. The protection also applies when you get air ambulance services from an out-of-network provider.

Previously, if you had health coverage and got care from an out-of-network provider, your plan likely wouldn’t cover the entire cost. Now, the No Surprises Act restricts excessive out-of-pocket expenses ensures the continuation of emergency services regardless of whether or not your provider or facility is in-network.
