What could be causing my lower back pain?

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal, resulting in compression of the nerves in the lower back. This often leads to low back pain and tingling/numbness, which may spread into the upper legs and calves. This type of pain is typically worse with standing and walking and is relieved by sitting down.

If you are experiencing chronic lower back pain and you haven’t found relief, you might be experiencing LSS. Please schedule an appointment with us! We’ll help identify the cause of your pain and work with you to create a comprehensive plan for relief.

FAQs

What exactly is Vertiflex?

During the Vertiflex procedure, Dr. McKeag inserts what is called a Superion implant between the affected vertebrae. The four arms of the implant open up and provide proper spacing between the two vertebrae, reducing the compression on the spinal nerves and providing long-lasting relief from the painful symptoms of LSS or other chronic back pain conditions.

How is the procedure performed?

A specially certified physician makes a small incision over the affected vertebrae. The Vertiflex Superion implant is placed and the incision is then closed with a small stitch and a bandage. The procedure itself takes about 20 minutes and is performed in an outpatient surgery center.

Will I need general anesthesia?

No, general anesthesia is not required. Patients will be kept comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure with either a local anesthetic or light sedation. You will be able to go home the same day.

Will Medicare or other insurance cover my Vertiflex procedure?

Superion by Vertiflex is covered by Medicare. It is not yet eligible for coverage via other insurers. Please contact our office [link to their office phone number here] if you have further questions regarding insurance coverage.
